Mehu-Liisa Products imports the Mehu-Liisa steam juicer

manufactured by OPA-MUURIKKA OY in Finland. It is the highest quality stainless steel steam juicer available on the market today. Decades of design excellence have produced an efficient, durable, and attractive steam juicer that, with proper care, will serve the user for years. The Mehu-Liisa steam juicer is an heirloom quality canning and home food preservation tool.

Osmo Heila first brought the juicer over from Finland in the 70’s and was North American Distributor of the original Mehu-Maija for over 25 years. When the Mehu-Maija went out of production in the early 90’s Osmo started importing from OPA OY. After his passing in 2003 his son, Daniel Heila, took over the business as he felt it would be a shame to let such an excellent product become unavailable.

  1. I have had one of these for years and love it. I can everything possible with it. Last year we made some vegetable broth that was the most delicious broth I have ever tasted. Now I want to make chicken and beef broth. I will freeze the cooked chicken but after the broth is put into treated jars is it necessary to pressure can too? I am unable to find any recipes or directions on meat/broth canning with Mehu Liisa. I planned to put chickens & vegetables in basket, steam until the broth comes out, put into treated jars and be done. But since meat products require pressure canning typically, I want to be safe.

      Carolyn – yes, absolutely pressure can your broth. I would say 10 mins. at 10 lbs pressure. However, don’t take my word for it. There are many variables on this process. Check with your local Ag. Extension office for specifics. Here is a good link to browse for instructions:

      Here is a specific pdf file on canning meats. Canning meat based broth is addressed on page 6.


      Also, the resulting broth willl most likely be quite concentrated, more like a reduction than regular broth. So, you may want to dilute to taste and add salt and pepper.     I have one of the original Mehu steamer with an aluminum water pan and would like to replace it. Is a stainless steel one available?

      The only replacement water pans we have fit the newer 10 liter or 11 liter Mehu-Liisa juicers. Your juicer sounds like an old Mehu-Maija. These juicers went out of production in the early 90s.

      Sometimes you can find a water pan on EBay. Just be sure that you have the seller measure the diameter of the pan to be sure it matches yours. Good Luck!
